A few web-based computing goings-on

Google – within a few months – might start offering web-based storage for all of your stuff. Read more about it in this WSJ article.

Buzzword is the nicest web-based word processor I’ve seen…try it out.  I think it’s going to be owned by Adobe, so I’m not sure how long it’ll be free.

Has anybody run into any nice web-based spreadsheet editors?  I’m not a huge fan of the google one…

Mildly Superficial User Experience Round-up

Smashing Magazine is running an article listing “some of the outstanding developments in the field of user experience design.” With one exception, all of the projects listed fall into the smart-table-multi-touch genre–not a small, portable device or anything without a massive full color screen in sight. Still, it’s a nice survey with good images and the included projects are pretty important at the moment.

Evidence Based Scheduling

I just read an article about estimating how long it will take you to do something. This might seem boring as dirt because it is. Except that this is the most exciting-sounding thing I’ve seen about something this boring in a long, long time. Here’s an example of why this article sounds so exciting: “Only the programmer doing the work can create the estimate. That’s truth, right there.

WalkScore – Nice use of google maps API

Here is a site that uses Google Maps’ API and a nice little algorithm to calculate how pedestrian friendly the area around an address is:WalkScore.com

Nice Flash 3D

Canon has a nice promo site for their EOS 400d camera up here. Wait a long time for the load, then go to “urban paradise” especially. Seems to use the PaperVision3D engine for Flash.
